Nájera to Santo Domingo de la Calzada 20.9km/13mi:
Was mostly an easy day of walking until we left a town called Azofra and as we were walking through wheat fieds when the rain came again! Yay, for 5 minutes of dry feet. We walked the remaining 15.1km/9.3mi with wet everything and eventually came to a very steep 2km/1.24mi steady uphill booger!
Santo Domingo de la Calzada to Belorado 22.3km/13.9mi:
Was on a bus because one of us woke up with an upset stomach, one of us is still dealing with a stubborn unhealed blister, and one of us with a sore leg. It allowed us to spend time in the Cathedral of Santo Domingo.
As the story goes, a German family were on the pilgrimage to Santiago and they stayed with a farmers family in Santo Domingo. The farmers daughter tried to seduce the son but he refused her. As revenge she hid silver items in his backpack and accused him of theft, for which he was found guilty and hanged. His parents continued on to Santiago and on their return journey they were delighted to find their son still alive, hanging in the noose, claiming that the saint held him up so he wouldn't die. They hurried to the magistrate to demand that their son be cut down since he was clearly innocent. The magistrate said that the their son was no more alive then the roasted chicken that he was about to eat. At that, the chicken stood up on his plate, miraculously brought back to life feathers and all, and crowed. In remembrance of this story, live chickens are kept in the Cathedral which are said to be descendants of the resurrected fowl. #caminofrances
